If so, your home may contain asbestos. Before we begin a popcorn ceiling removal project, we will take a sample of the ceiling for an asbestos test that will generally take about 1 week for results. This ensures that we can safely and effectively remove the popcorn ceiling without disturbing any harmful asbestos fibers.
Our process begins with sanding and removing the popcorn ceiling with a Festool Planex machine. The Planex is a professional-grade vacuum sander with a HEPA filter that is excellent at keeping a dust to a minimum. It sucks up the dust as sanding is taking place and has a LED light to pick out any imperfections. The next stage is a skim coat using a low-dust drywall compound. In certain cases multiple compound coats and sanding may be required.
After the skim coat is complete, a high-grade primer and ceiling paint is applied for a beautiful, clean finish.
Throughout our ceiling projects over the years, we often come across homeowners in the Niagara Region who are worried about the “mess” that scraping the ceiling may make. At ERB Paint and Stucco we use the dust free removal method without the mess. Utilization of a negative air machines along with commercial air movers to keep the air circulating are paramount for any popcorn removal project. Further, when a job is complete, we utilize a negative air machine/air scrubber to purify your homes air.
